Gaseous Sampling Systems

Apart from particulate matter the stack gases emitting from an industrial stack may consist of a number of gaseous pollutants viz. carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur oxides etc.

The determination of concentration of gaseous pollutants is carried out by either instrumentals methods or by manual methods using sampling systems.

Polltech’s manufactures gaseous sampling systems and supplies third party instruments for measurement of various gaseous pollutants.

Manual Methods- Sampling Systems

NOx Sampling System

Determination of emissions of nitrogen oxides(NOx) from stationary sources is carried out as per the stipulations of US EPA Method 7.

In this method, a grab sample is collected in an evacuated flask containing a dilute sulfuric acid-hydrogen peroxide absorbing solution, and the nitrogen oxides, except nitrous oxide, are measured colorimetrically using the phenoldisulfonic acid (PDS) procedure.

Our NOx Sampling Equipment Model PEM – NOS 1-X is designed to enable sampling of NOx from stack emissions in compliance with method 7.

PEM – NOS 1-X comprises a round bottom glass flask fitted with a 3-way stopcock. The flask is encapsulated with PE foam and housed in an elegant wooden / MS box. The 3 -way stop cock helps in evacuating the flask, flushing the sample line and collecting the NOx sample in the evacuated flask. Provision is also made to connect a vacuum gauge and a thermometer for measuring the pressure and temperature inside the flask.

PEM – NOS 1-X in conjunction with a filter, probe and a sampling pump forms a complete Method 7 compliant NOx Sampling System

PEM – NOS 1-X can also be used as an add-on to an existing Method 17 isokinetic sampling system.

SO2 Sampling System

Determination of emissions of sulphur dioxide from stationary sources is carried out as per the stipulations of US EPA Method 6.

In this method, a gas sample is extracted from the sampling point in the stack. The SO2 and the sulfur trioxide, including those fractions in any sulfur acid mist, are separated. The SO2 fraction is measured by the barium-thorin titration method.

Our SO2 Sampling Equipment Model PEM –SSCIB-1X is designed to enable sampling of SO2 from stack emissions in compliance with method 6.

PEM –SSCIB-1X comprises a set of 4 impingers.

PEM –SSCIB-1X in conjunction with a heated probe, one of the Control Modules PEM-SMK10 or PEM-SMK20 or PEM-SMS4 and a sampling pump module forms a complete SO2 sampling system.

PEM –SSCIB-1X can also be used as an add-on to an existing Method 17 isokinetic sampling system.

VOC Sampling System

Determination of emissions of volatile organic compounds from stationary sources is carried out as per the stipulations of US EPA Method 0031.

This method employs a sampling module and a control module to withdraw a 20-L sample of effluent gas containing volatile organic compounds from a stationary source at a flow rate of 1 L/min, using a glass-lined probe heated to 130 ± 5°C and a sampling method for volatile organic compounds (SMVOC) train.

download

The sample collection system consists of a heated glass-lined probe, followed by an isolation valve and charcoal trap, a water-cooled glass condenser, two sorbent tubes containing Tenax®-GC (1.6 ± 0.1 g each), an empty knock-out trap for condensate removal, a second water-cooled glass condenser, a third sorbent tube containing Anasorb®-747 (5.0 g ± 0.1 g), a silica gel drying tube, a flow measuring system, , a sampling pump, and a gas volume metering system . The vacuum during sampling and for leak-checking is monitored by pressure gauges which are in-line with and downstream from the silica gel drying tube.

Our Volatile Organic Sampling System Model PEM - VOSS 1 is a complete sampling system which includes all components required as per US EPA method 0031.
