LUCAS Cell

Popular devices for measuring radon concentration in mines and other high background areas

Detection and measurement of Radon concentration assumes great importance in mitigating the health hazards caused by it. Radon is a source of ionizing radiation and is a proven carcinogen. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

LUCAS Cell

Available Models : PSI – LC 1, PSI – LCV 1

Applications

Radon measurement in mines and other high background areas

Physical Design Highlights

Lucas Cell is a 150 cc Cylindrical chamber which is internally coated with ZnS(Ag) scintillator powder. The cell is fitted with a Swagelok connector and an optional vacuum gauge. Lucas Cell is coupled with Lucas Cell PM probe in a manner to ensure no light leak.

Lucas Cell Emulator comprises an alpha source coupled with a ZnS(Ag) scintillator. The emulator produces scintillations like they are produced in a Lucas Cell. The emulator is useful for calibrating Lucas Cell PM tube.

Salient Features

  • Quick connect and disconnect pneumatic connections.
  • Light tight Coupling
  • Protection against inadvertent exposure of Photomultiplier at High Voltage
