Affords a simple and cost effective technique for SSNTD based Alpha / Radon measurements
SSNTD films are used for detection and measurement of Radon and its progeny by identifying and analyzing the tracks that are created by the alpha particles of Radon and its decay products on SSNTD film when it is exposed to an atmosphere containing Radon. The exposed SSNTD is made to undergo an etching process which turns the nuclear tracks into holes in the films. These holes are counted to obtain Radon concentration. Automatic counting of the holes by jumping spark technique is an inexpensive yet accurate method.

Physical Design Highlights
PSI-SC1 comprises a spark head assembly and a Control Unit.
The spark head assembly includes an acrylic base plate with two electrodes. A heavy SS counter weight arrangement over the base plate helps in tightly holding the etched / processed LR 115 SSNTD along with a Aluminized between two electrodes. The high voltage for pre-sparking and counting is applied between these electrode. The spark head assembly is mounted on a tripod stand.
The Control Unit is a microprocessor based electronic unit which controls the generation of the High voltage, the gate / window time and carries out the functions of counting, storage, display and serial communication with a PC.
